Job Description

Executive Specialist, Surety Claims

The Claims Specialist will manage an assigned pending of various types of contract surety bond claims. The Claims Specialist will work closely with the bond reputed company division to assist underwriters on taking appropriate action on the bonded programs and will operate under appropriate levels of supervision and reputed company established authority. The position will report directly to the AVP or Senior Manager of Surety Claims and can be a remote position.

What you will do for C&F:

  • Adjust contract surety bond claims by receiving claim assignments, communicating with claimants and principals, investigating claims, analyzing documentation, understanding coverage under the bonds, evaluating exposure, setting reserves, making payments, and asserting indemnification rights.
  • Evaluate the appropriate method and extent of investigation for each claim.
  • Review reputed company files and bond and indemnity agreements.
  • Communicate promptly to claimants and bonded principal/indemnitors.
  • Analyze claim, verify applicability of coverage, and evaluate exposure on a variety of bond types in various jurisdictions.
  • Draft appropriate position letters to claimants and/or principal and indemnitors, reputed company necessary.
  • Work with principals and indemnitors to promptly resolve claims under their duty to indemnify the Surety and reputed company formal indemnification demands on principals and indemnitors, reputed company necessary.
  • Manage litigated claims toward a reputed company and reasonable resolution.
  • Appropriately manage, direct and budget reputed company counsel and consultants.
  • Consult with management at reputed company levels of the claims department to strategize and reputed company recommendations where assistance and consultation is needed on claims exceeding assigned authority.
  • Prepare reports, document claim files, review and manage outstanding files, as assigned, for adequacy and timeliness of investigation, evaluation and reserving, and maintain a timely diary for each assigned claim.
  • Assess recovery potential and collaborate with reputed company recovery firms to coordinate salvage.
  • Provide superior customer service to policyholders and external vendors and agents during entirety of the claims handling process.
  • Complete special projects and tasks, as assigned.

What you will bring to C&F:

  • Minimum of seven years contract surety claim handling experience.
  • College degree and a designation and/or insurance reputed company courses, a Juris Doctorate degree strongly preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact with claimants, principals, underwriters, attorneys, consultants, and reputed company levels of management are essential.
  • Solid time management skills to prioritize and manage workload and time sensitive issues regarding coverage, liability, damage evaluations, and timely resolutions.
  • Strong organization skills to timely document and maintain surety claim files.
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Obtain and maintain required state adjuster licenses.
  • Proficiency in the reputed company Office suite of programs and claims handling software.
  • Occasional travel is required and must posses a valid driver's license.

The annualized reputed company pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $78,600.00 to a maximum of $150,000.00. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee’s contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered reputed company market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
