Position Overview

The Customer Development Manager (B2C) will own the strategic management, leadership, and execution of all sales‑related activities for a key national retailer, driving growth for arenaflex’s flagship nutrition brands. This role is primarily remote, with a preference for candidates located in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota area, and requires proven experience in direct selling to large retail partners.

Reporting to the Regional Vice President, you will partner closely with internal cross‑functional teams—including Customer Strategy, Finance, and Customer Service—to develop and implement winning retail strategies, expand distribution, and maximize category share.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Relationship Building: Cultivate and deepen strategic relationships with senior decision‑makers at the retailer, focusing on divisional wins such as in‑store displays, expanded distribution, and ACV (All Commodity Volume) growth.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Work hand‑in‑hand with arenaflex’s Customer Strategy, Finance, and Service teams to align on joint business plans, promotional calendars, and performance metrics.
  • Market Insight & Go‑to‑Market Planning: Maintain a detailed understanding of the retailer’s go‑to‑market model, category management strategy, and shopper behavior to inform actionable sales plans.
  • Budget & Forecast Management: Deliver on the retailer’s budget plan, new‑product distribution targets, and trade‑investment forecasts using arenaflex’s CRM platforms (TIM and Osprey) and the retailer’s internal systems.
  • Growth Opportunity Identification: Spot emerging growth opportunities, develop strategic written sales plans, and execute initiatives that align with arenaflex’s corporate objectives.
  • Customer Education & Presentation: Educate retailer partners on arenaflex’s product innovations, retail goals, and success measurement frameworks through compelling presentations and data‑driven storytelling.
  • Operational Execution: Oversee daily business operations—including UPC setup, inventory management, logistics coordination, and promotional execution—to ensure seamless product availability.
  • Trade Management & ROI Optimization: Manage trade investment inputs, fund allocation, and budget processing to achieve strong ROI, while providing monthly sales analytics and insights.
  • P&L Ownership: Assume responsibility for profit and loss performance within the assigned account, driving revenue growth while maintaining cost efficiency.
  • Contract & Partnership Management: Lead ongoing contract negotiations, ensuring strategic alignment and mutual market positioning for both arenaflex and the retailer.
  • Travel & Field Support: Travel up to 20% of the time to support retailer meetings, in‑store events, and cross‑functional workshops as needed.
  • Additional Duties: Perform any other tasks assigned by the direct manager that support the overall success of the retail partnership.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Psychology, or a related field (Master’s or MBA preferred).
  • 5+ years of sales experience, with at least 2 years managing large B2C retail accounts (experience with the retailer is strongly preferred).
  • Demonstrated success in grocery, drug, or mass‑retail channels.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Experience leveraging syndicated data to shape pricing, promotional strategies, and market‑share growth.
  • Strong project‑management skills, with a track record of delivering complex initiatives on time and within budget.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and stakeholder‑management abilities.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and thrive under pressure with minimal supervision.
  • Financial acumen, including budget analysis, revenue forecasting, and P&L management.
  • Creative problem‑solving mindset and willingness to explore “uncharted” territory.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Advanced degree (MBA or related) with a focus on sales, marketing, or finance.
  • Hands‑on experience with retailer‑specific trade‑investment platforms (e.g., TIM, Osprey).
  • Deep knowledge of category‑management principles and shopper‑insight analytics.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute multi‑brand, multi‑category strategies.
  • Experience leading cross‑functional teams in a fast‑paced, matrixed environment.
  • Demonstrated track record of exceeding revenue and profitability targets.

Core Competencies for Success

  • Strategic Vision: Ability to see the big picture, anticipate market trends, and translate insights into actionable plans.
  • Relationship Management: Skilled at building trust, influencing senior stakeholders, and nurturing long‑term partnerships.
  • Analytical Rigor: Comfortable working with large data sets, extracting meaningful insights, and making data‑driven decisions.
  • Leadership Presence: Confident communicator who can inspire teams, drive consensus, and champion initiatives across the organization.
  • Adaptability: Agile in responding to changing business priorities, retailer demands, and emerging opportunities.
  • Results Orientation: Focused on delivering measurable outcomes, meeting KPIs, and continuously improving performance.
