We are seeking an experienced Senior Academic Advisor to guide and support undergraduate students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. This role is crucial for helping students navigate their academic journey, select appropriate courses, explore career pathways, and connect with university resources. The Senior Academic Advisor will provide personalized advising, facilitate workshops, and contribute to the development of advising strategies to enhance student retention and graduation rates. Key Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive academic advising to undergraduate STEM students regarding degree requirements, course selection, and academic progress. Assist students in developing personalized academic and career goals, and connect them with relevant resources and opportunities. Monitor student academic performance and intervene proactively with students facing academic challenges. Conduct individual advising sessions and facilitate group workshops on topics such as study skills, career exploration, and academic planning. Maintain accurate and confidential student records, utilizing university advising software. Collaborate with faculty, departmental advisors, and student support services to ensure a holistic approach to student success. Stay informed about curriculum changes, university policies, and career trends within STEM fields. Serve as a mentor and resource for other academic advisors within the department. Contribute to the assessment and continuous improvement of academic advising services.

Requirements

Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Student Affairs, a STEM field, or a related discipline. Minimum of 4 years of experience in academic advising, preferably at the university level and with STEM students. Strong understanding of university curricula, academic policies, and student development theories. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills. Proficiency with student information systems and advising software. Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations. Experience in developing and delivering workshops or training sessions. Familiarity with the academic landscape in Texas and the San Antonio area is beneficial. Comfort working in a Hybrid environment, with a mix of in-person and remote advising responsibilities.
