Role Overview

The Senior Analytics Engineer position at arenaflex is a pivotal, part‑time role that blends data entry expertise with advanced analytics engineering. You will partner with a cross‑functional team of data scientists, business intelligence (BI) engineers, platform architects, and data consumers to design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines that power the arenaflex Health Services Quality Improvement program. This role is remote, offering a competitive hourly rate of $30 and the flexibility to work from anywhere in the United States, with occasional travel (up to 5% of the time) for on‑site collaboration or stakeholder meetings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Pipeline Development: Design, develop, and orchestrate multi‑layered data pipelines that ingest, transform, and load (ETL/ELT) large volumes of structured and semi‑structured data from internal arenaflex production systems and external sources.
  • Data Warehouse Management: Maintain and optimize arenaflex’s data warehouse environments (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks) to ensure high‑performance analytics and reporting capabilities for health‑service initiatives.
  • Data Modeling & Architecture: Create logical and physical data models that support both operational analytics and advanced predictive analytics, aligning with business requirements and industry best practices.
  • Automation & Tooling: Build internal tools and automation scripts that streamline data quality checks, validation processes, and data governance workflows.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with data scientists, BI developers, product owners, and external vendors to translate business needs into technical specifications and deliver actionable insights.
  • Data Profiling & Exploration: Conduct thorough data profiling and exploratory analysis across various arenaflex data sources, including pharmacy claims, clinical case records, HEDIS, and ECDS datasets.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Document data pipelines, transformation logic, and data lineage to facilitate knowledge transfer and support future enhancements.
  • Travel & Stakeholder Engagement: Participate in occasional on‑site meetings (up to 5% travel) to engage with internal partners, attend workshops, and support cross‑functional initiatives.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands‑on experience developing and maintaining SQL‑based ETL/ELT scripts in a production environment.
  • Proven expertise in building and managing data pipelines using modern data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, or Azure Data Factory.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling concepts, including star and snowflake schemas, and experience translating business requirements into robust data structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with large data sets, perform data profiling, and implement data quality frameworks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a track record of collaborating effectively with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel up to 5% of the time for business purposes, both within and outside the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification as a Certified Analytics Professional (CAP) or similar credential.
  • Experience in the pharmacy, health‑care, or clinical research domains, with familiarity of industry‑specific data concepts such as pharmacy claims, HEDIS measures, and electronic health records.
  • Hands‑on experience with BI visualization tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Looker, and the ability to support data‑driven storytelling for business users.
  • Knowledge of cloud‑based data orchestration tools (e.g., Azure Data Factory, AWS Glue) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Prior involvement in building data‑centric automation solutions that improve operational efficiency and data governance.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced SQL, Python or Scala for data transformation, and familiarity with version control (Git).
  • Data Engineering Tools: Experience with Snowflake, Databricks, Azure Synapse, or similar data warehouse platforms.
  • ETL/ELT Best Practices: Ability to design scalable, fault‑tolerant pipelines that adhere to data governance and security standards.
  • Analytical Mindset: Strong problem‑solving skills, with a focus on translating raw data into meaningful business insights.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work in a matrixed environment, influencing cross‑functional teams without direct authority.
  • Communication: Clear articulation of technical concepts to non‑technical audiences, and the creation of concise documentation.
  • Adaptability: Comfort with evolving priorities, rapid iteration, and continuous learning in a fast‑paced health‑tech setting.
