Within our Technology division, the Enterprise Data Services team plays a critical role in ensuring the seamless flow, reliability, and accessibility of data across the entire organization. We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Senior Big Data Software Engineer to join our growing team and contribute to the design, development, and optimization of our enterprise data infrastructure.

Position Overview

The Senior Big Data Software Engineer serves as a senior-level contributor within our Enterprise Data Services organization, responsible for building, maintaining, and enhancing our big data platforms and distributed computing systems. This role requires a unique blend of technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.

In this position, you will design and implement scalable data pipelines, develop robust ETL workflows, and optimize data processing frameworks to meet the demanding requirements of enterprise-level operations. You will work with cutting-edge technologies including Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, and cloud-native services to deliver high-performance data solutions that support business intelligence, analytics, and operational reporting needs.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Big Data Software Engineer at arenaflex, you will be entrusted with significant responsibilities that directly impact our data infrastructure and business operations:

  • Lead Complex Data Initiatives: Architect and drive moderately complex data engineering projects and initiatives within specialized technical environments, ensuring adherence to best practices and quality standards.
  • System Planning & Design: Contribute to large-scale planning and design of data architectures, methodologies, and processing frameworks that support enterprise-wide data requirements.
  • Development & Implementation: Design, code, test, troubleshoot, and document applications, systems, and solutions related to technology platforms, including enhancements, deployments, and production implementations.
  • Technical Problem Resolution: Analyze and resolve moderately complex technical challenges that require in-depth assessment of emerging technologies, frameworks, and industry methodologies.
  • Issue Resolution & Team Leadership: Resolve complex problems and lead teams to meet existing client needs while maintaining a strong understanding of functionality, processes, methodologies, and compliance requirements.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate and communicate with peers, associates, and mid-level managers to resolve technical challenges and achieve project objectives.
  • Mentorship & Guidance: Lead project initiatives and serve as an escalation point, providing guidance and direction to less experienced team members.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Create comprehensive technical documentation, knowledge base articles, and runbooks to support team efficiency and knowledge transfer.

Essential Qualifications

To qualify for this senior-level position, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.
  • Professional Experience: Minimum of 3+ years of progressive software engineering or data engineering experience, demonstrated through practical work experience, training, or equivalent technical background.
  • Big Data Technologies: Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience with Apache Hadoop ecosystem and distributed computing frameworks.
  • Database Technologies: Minimum 3+ years of experience with enterprise database platforms, including Teradata and/or MongoDB.
  • Cloud Platform Expertise: Minimum 3+ years of experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) or equivalent cloud platforms for data engineering and deployment.
  • Version Control: Minimum 3+ years of experience with GitHub, Bitbucket, or similar version control systems.
  • Software Development Lifecycle: Minimum 3+ years of experience in planning, coding, testing, troubleshooting, and documenting applications and projects.
  • Programming Languages: Minimum 3+ years of experience in Python and Unix/Shell scripting, with additional experience in Scala, Java, or equivalent languages.
  • Data Pipeline Technologies: Experience with data pipeline orchestration tools including Oozie, Flume, Apache Kafka, and similar frameworks.
  • Automation & Configuration Management: Minimum 3+ years of experience with configuration management and automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications will enhance your candidacy:

  • Financial Services Industry Experience: Prior experience working as a Big Data Engineer or Software Engineer within the financial services or banking industry.
  • ETL Development Expertise: Experience in designing and implementing ETL data streams using mapping and workflow tools to extract data from SQL Server and transform data from Oracle/Access/Excel using SSIS or equivalent tools.
  • Certification: Relevant professional certifications in big data technologies, cloud platforms, or data engineering.
  • Advanced Degree: Master's degree or higher in a related technical field.

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong proficiency in big data technologies including Hadoop, Spark, HBase, Hive, and related ecosystem components.

  • Database Knowledge: Strong knowledge of SQL and NoSQL database systems, including Teradata, MongoDB, Cassandra, or similar platforms.
  • Cloud Platform Skills: Demonstrated expertise in AWS or equivalent cloud platforms, including EC2, S3, EMR, Lambda, and other managed services.
  • Data Pipeline Development: Experience designing and implementing scalable data pipelines using Kafka, Flume, Oozie, or similar orchestration tools.
  • Automation & DevOps: Strong skills in automation tools such as Ansible for configuration management and deployment automation.
