About the Unit — Neurology (8E) Neurology 8E cares for patients experiencing acute and chronic neurological conditions such as strokes, seizures, brain tumors, and brain bleeds. Team members gain valuable experience supporting complex neuro assessments, safety-focused care, and close interdisciplinary collaboration with therapy and neurology teams.

Overview

Utilizes the nursing process to provide patient care under the supervision of person(s) licensed by a State regulatory board to prescribe medication and treatment, or under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) . Maintains professional accountability for provision of patient care for the assigned patients. Coordinates the patient care in conjunction with other departments. Maintains patient rights and confidentiality of patient information. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent Licensure: Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program Must hold and maintain a current LPN license in Missouri and meet all State Board of Nursing requirements Comparable education experience and successful licensure may be considered Experience: New graduates and experienced LPNs welcome Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (or within 30 days of hire) LPN-IV Certification completed prior to hire or within 3 months (up to 1 year based on unit requirements) Physical Requirements: Frequent standing and walking throughout shift Significant bending, stooping, and patient lifting/turning with assistance Ability to push, pull, and grip up to 50 lbs Why Mercy? Transforming the Health of Our Communities Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 195 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who was determined to help women and children in Dublin experiencing poverty. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill that dream. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, one of the first religious orders whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. In 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States. In 1856, they traveled to St. Louis. In the years to come, they would establish hospitals throughout the Midwest.
