Remote Senior Insurance Underwriter

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Insurance Underwriter to join their fully remote team. This is a remote-first opportunity, providing the flexibility to work from anywhere within the US. You will be responsible for evaluating and assessing risks associated with insurance applications, primarily focusing on (Specific Insurance Type - e.g., commercial property, complex liability, specialty lines). Your core duty will involve analyzing financial data, historical loss trends, applicant information, and other relevant factors to determine policy terms, conditions, and premiums. You will make sound underwriting decisions that balance risk mitigation with business objectives, ensuring profitability and compliance with regulatory standards. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of actuarial principles, risk management strategies, and relevant insurance products. You will collaborate with brokers, agents, and internal sales teams to gather necessary information and provide expert guidance on complex cases. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills are paramount. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for effectively discussing underwriting decisions and building strong professional relationships. You should be proficient in using underwriting software and systems and committed to continuous learning to stay abreast of industry changes and emerging risks. Key Responsibilities: Evaluate and underwrite insurance applications, assessing risks and determining appropriate policy terms, conditions, and pricing. Analyze financial statements, loss history, market conditions, and other relevant data. Make informed underwriting decisions to achieve profitability targets and manage risk exposure. Collaborate with brokers, agents, and internal teams to gather information and provide expertise. Develop and maintain strong relationships with key distribution partners. Ensure compliance with all applicable insurance regulations and company policies. Mentor junior underwriters and contribute to underwriting best practices. Stay current with industry trends, market developments, and emerging risks. Document underwriting decisions and rationale clearly and concisely. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field. Advanced degree or relevant professional designations (e.g., CPCU, ARM) highly desirable. Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in insurance underwriting, with a specialization in (Specific Insurance Type). Proven expertise in risk assessment, financial analysis, and pricing methodologies. Strong understanding of insurance products, markets, and regulatory environments. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in underwriting systems and relevant software. Ability to work independently and manage a complex workload in a remote setting.
