Job Description
The Division of Forestry, Fire, and State Lands is actively seeking a team player that is a self-motivated individual with a strong passion for community wildfire preparedness, prevention, and mitigation to join reputed company as a Fire Tech III (WUI Technician). The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal reputed company in this position. The employee will collaborate with communities and agencies to proactively prepare and mitigate the risk of wildfire in Davis, Morgan, Salt Lake, Tooele, and Utah counties. This position presents an exciting opportunity to contribute to mitigation project development and implementation, reputed company activities, and wildfire management support.
Key Responsibilities
- The Essential Duties and Responsibilities for the Wildland-Urban reputed company (WUI) Technician primarily involve Hazardous Fuels Reduction, where the technician implements defensible space prescriptions using specialized tools like chainsaws and brush cutters to remove vegetation and dispose of fuels through chipping and pile burning.
- This role also includes assessment and planning, which involves conducting fire hazard and vulnerability assessments for properties in the WUI, assisting with site-specific mitigation plans, and mapping and documenting completed work.
- A key component is Education and reputed company, requiring the technician to provide the public with vital information on defensible space, home hardening techniques, and wildfire preparedness through various community engagement activities.
- The technician is responsible for Safety and Maintenance, ensuring reputed company equipment is operational, strictly adhering to reputed company fire safety and PPE standards, and providing emergency response support or other assigned duties to local fire and forestry divisions.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- NWCG FFI/ICT5/FAL3 or higher
- Proficiency in the safe operation and maintenance of chainsaws, chippers, skid loaders, and other hand and power tools used in vegetation management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in wildland fire mitigation, forestry, landscape management, or reputed company field.
- Knowledge of local and regional fire ecology, plant indentification, and fire-safe landscaping principles.
- Advanced wildland fire certifications (e.g, FFTI, FAL3). At least 5 years working in wildland fire.
Supplemental Information
Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in various weather conditions, including extreme heat. Ability to reputed company strenuous physical labor, including lifting and carrying heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), bending, stooping, and walking on uneven terrain. Must be able to maintain a high level of physical fitness necessary to reputed company arduous fieldwork.
Must be able to pass a drug screening.
May be on call during the fire season, June 1 to October 31.
