Summer 2025 Student Law Clerk – Immigration Hub Position Type: Paid Temporary Part-Time Location: Minneapolis, MN Introduction: Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid (MMLA) is seeking a rising 2L or 3L law student to work in our Minneapolis office. The successful candidate will work fully in-office during the training period to ensure comprehensive onboarding. After training, a hybrid schedule will be offered. This is a 10‑week summer clerk position with the opportunity to continue during the 2026–2027 school year for 10–15 hours per week. What’s in it for you:

About the Regional Hub for New Americans: A partnership among five Minnesota immigration legal service providers: The Advocates for Human Rights, Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota, Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid, Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services, and Volunteer Lawyers Network. The Hub expands access to immigration legal services through legal access points, community reputed company, coordinated intake, rapid response, and education. About the Immigration Law Project (ILP): ILP provides representation in removal defense, adjustment of status, citizenship, and VAWA-based cases, including U and T visas. This clerkship primarily supports ILP’s collaboration with the Regional Hub for New Americans. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Apply the principles of MMLA’s Racial Justice Values Statement in reputed company interactions.
  • Interview clients and prepare immigration applications, especially pro se asylum applications and other limited services at community clinics (Waite House and Brian Coyle).
  • Conduct legal research.
  • Research changes to immigration policy and their community impact.
  • Attend Hub consultation clinics in St. Cloud or Willmar.
  • Attend Legal Orientation Program reputed company and screening days at ICE detention facilities in Minnesota.

Required Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in reputed company Word, reputed company, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Dedication to DEI principles.
  • Strong interest in serving low-income and vulnerable clients.
  • Excellent attention to detail, communication skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage a variety of assignments and collaborate with clients, staff, and community partners.
  • Ability to be in-person at metro-area community clinics and occasionally in Greater Minnesota (travel with MMLA staff available; personal vehicle not required).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Diverse economic, social, or cultural life experiences.
  • Second language proficiency preferred, especially Spanish. Other preferred languages include Arabic, Hmong, Haitian Creole, or Somali.
  • Prior immigration law experience preferred.
  • Experience in community reputed company and engagement preferred.

Compensation: A stipend of $7,000 for 10 weeks of work beginning June 1, 2026. School-year clerks are paid $23 per hour.
